| With the chilly north winds blowing, snow swirling and thoughts of summer light years away, hereís a holiday gift to warm your soul: images of summer. They come compliments of Lorraine Aubert, AC6XK, outdoors editor of The ARS Sojourner. She and fellow QRPer Eric Hanson, AC6YB, took a bicycle camping trip into the San Bernardino mountains northeast of Los Angeles last summer. Their story appeared in the August edition of The ARS Sojourner. For your viewing pleasure, here's an eagle's eye pictorial of their bike-hike: The ski lift at the Snow Summit ski resort gave them a leg up on gaining elevation for their trip. After reaching View Haus at the top of the chairlift, they cycled five miles to Grand View Point in search of a camping site. Eric Hanson, AC6YB, was all smiles after working Oklahoma using his tiny NorCal Forty-9er milliwatt transceiver. Break a leg? That's what Lorraine Aubert, AC6XK, did on her bicycle camping adventure. Fortunately, the broken appendage had to do with her 20-meter antenna. She didn't find out about the broken leg of her dipole until the evening's Spartan Sprint was over. Remarkably, she was able to make a contact using the limping skywire. * * * * * * * * * * The story of the bicycle camping QRP-edition by Lorraine Aubert, AC6XK, and Eric Hanson, AC6YB, appeared in the August edition of The ARS Sojourner. |
