All USGS topo maps have UTM 1000-meter grid ticks along the margins. For a while, USGS was printing grid lines across the face of the map, which makes it easy to plot UTM coordinates. Unfortunately, they’ve since stopped doing so. If your map doesn’t have grid lines, you may want to add them yourself using a long straight edge.
