ARS Announces New Enhancements to its Technical Program |

| One of the primary purposes of The Adventure Radio Society is "to support the development of imaginative radio equipment and antennas." During the past year, we've been trying to give greater substance to this technical side of our organization.
Our first step was the establishment of the ARS QRP Lab. Getting the Lab off the ground has been challenging and time consuming, but we feel the benefits are worth the cost. The Lab allows us to investigate topologies and equipment that would not be appropriate for the ARRL Lab. As far as we know, ARS is the only organization, outside ARRL, regularly publishing technical reviews of this kind. In this issue of The ARS Sojourner, we are announcing our second step. ARS will begin a vigorous program to support hams who want to "build from schematics." We feel that the ultimate technical reward in amateur radio is the creation of a piece of equipment directly from schematics. Yet, for many of us, the difficulties are daunting. ARS wants to make this form of home brewing more practical and rewarding for the greatest number of people. We want to make it clear that we are not against kits. We feel that kits are the ideal way to introduce a large number of people to the joys of home brew equipment, and that various QRP organizations are doing magnificent work in this realm. But we are convinced that many of us are now "stuck," not really knowing how to become more confident and self-sufficient constructors. That is the niche on which we will focus. More soon! |
