My wife Marie and I just returned from Scales Mound, IL, a 1,050
mile successful 2 day trip to activate Charles Mound, the highest point in the state of Illinois.

Wayne Wuebbels, who owns the land, gave me permission to enter his property. They have closed the access road because of vandalism and disrespectful conduct by some visitors.

It is a mile and a half walk to the top. I was successful in having a QSO with AD4MV. Bill in Jacksonville, FL, but we lost each other.

I had solid QSOs with K1AYZ, Ted in Searsport, ME and K2JHZ,
Ken in New Port Richey, FL.

I used my trusty SW20 and whip. It sure is beautiful farm country in that area and so quiet.

This was number 10 I have activated to date. I have pictures of equipment at the site but not including the old man, as I was solo at the top!
