FOBB ’04:
ON THE AIR FROM BEANIE BABY PARK

I had the pleasure of my first venture as a Bumblebee in a park about a mile from home. I call it Beanie Baby Park because it was made possible with a large donation to the town from the Ty Warner Co., makers of Beanie Babies.

The sky was blue, the clouds were puffy white, the temp was in the low 70's, and I was on top of a small hill. Absolutely perfect!

Everything I needed fit into a backpack, and I made the trek to begin the Flight of the Bumblebees.

I set up my K1, homemade paddle, gel cel, and homemade version of the PAC-12 center-loaded vertical, and managed to make 23 contacts on 20 meters. The accompanying picture is from my operating position overlooking Beanie Baby Heaven (the Ty Warner building).

Not bad for the first time out. It was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year.
