2005 FOBB Reflections:
After 30 years, revisiting an old stomping ground

Getting there is half the fun. Maybe.

A two-hour hike up to the summit of Shortoff Mountain in the fog and rain was just the beginning. Linville Gorge Wilderness, sometimes referred to as “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina,” has a special place in my heart and holds many good memories. Over 30 years had passed since I last hiked this trail. I was not disappointed.

Strongest signal awards go to: WA9TZE and K5OT

My best distance stations were: K7CA, AB7E, K0EVZ

The most worked state: Colorado

That’s not bad considering that I ran 700 milliwatts to a dipole only 12 feet above the rocks.

Great skill was used by all stations that worked me. Thanks for digging me out.
